Viva Formica is a football website created by me, Tom Beck.

Inspired by Sam Kelly’s HastaElGolSiempre, this site was originally intended as a blog for coverage of Argentinian football. However, over time, those 4am kick-offs became (literally) tiresome and my commitment waned.

Viva Formica now covers world football. I have experience reporting all over the world and at all levels, from Argentina to Australia and from the World Cup to the deep depths of non-league.

The first game I ever covered was an Central Midlands Football League South Divison match between Blidworth Welfare and Kimberley Boys for the Mansfield Chad. I don’t remember who won.

Since 2011 I have worked as a South American football correspondent, reported on the European Championships in Poland, covered the World Cup in Brazil and live blogged my way through Chile’s Copa América.

I have worked for a number of different publications and radio stations over recent years, including Goal.com, ESPN, Perform Group, TalkSport, BBC Radio and ca2015.com.

Now freelancing in Melbourne, Australia, I hope to both broaden my A-League knowledge and deliver all my thoughts on world football.
